I truly enjoyed our Exotic Yoga Christmas in Mexico. If you want a get away from traditional Christmas, this is the place to go! Great facility, friendly staff, good program choice, but I think what made this yoga retreat so special was Gayle’s attention and love to participants. This is not a retreat to just go and do Yoga. This is a retreat to create life long memory.

Choose a holiday full of health, relaxation, gratitude and meaning. Our Christmas Yoga Retreat is a perfect way to escape the madness — spend this holiday practicing yoga, meditating and rejuvenating along a serene private beach in Mexico — with sun, sea, surfing, horse-backriding, paddle-boards, kayaks and a group of like-minded, multi-cultural yogis!

Flow of a Day

MORNINGS  Wake up to a stunning sea view and chorus of tropical birds as you sip tea or enjoy a coffee in quiet contemplation and breath-taking beauty. Stroll the beach, dive in the sea, then step into a magical morning of body, mind and soul rejuvenation in the Jungle Studio overlooking the ocean. Exotic Yoga Retreats founder Gayle Olson guides morning meditation, adjusts during yoga classes and offers her empowering and fun inversion workshops! Leading morning and afternoon yoga classes is European teacher, Josie Sykes, beloved for her depth of knowledge in yoga, her beautiful harmonium music and her wise and sweet spirit! Josie leads Vinyasa and Hatha classes with a superb understanding of healthy postural alignment from her extensive background in both yoga and the Feldenkrais postural method. All our Exotic Yoga programs are designed for mixed levels, offering modifications for beginners and greater levels of challenge for advanced students. We emphasize safety, awareness, intelligence—and the joie di vivre of yoga!

AFTERNOONS  Free time to enjoy the sunshine!  Lounge on the beach, swim in the sea, surf, paddle-board, kayak, hike in the jungle, horse-back ride, enjoy a fabulous massage, experience a traditional sweat lodge… or just lie in a hammock basking in the sweet luxury of down-time!  At noon a couple times during the retreat, Exotic Yoga Retreats founder, Gayle Olson, will offer inversion workshops for those interested in exploring nuances and safety practices in headstands and handstands. A delicious buffet lunch is served from 1:30-2:30, followed by plenty of time for a siesta to the sound of the waves!

EVENINGS  At sunset we reconvene for a deep and relaxing afternoon yoga practice watching the sun set set over the ocean below. Josie guides your body and mind into deep awareness and alignment—quieting your mind, balancing your nervous system and awakening your consciousness. Gayle adds her soothing yoga massage to bring you deeper into the present moment of body and breath. Following our sunset session is an exquisite dinner on the sea-view terrace, a three-course gourmet meal featuring inspired and traditional Mexican recipes, designed for the healthy life-style of a yogi. After dinner take a moonlight stroll on the beach, gather with friends around a bonfire or even try your feet at salsa!

Accessible only by boat, you will be met at the airport in Puerto Vallarta and taken by boat to the one of Exotic Yoga Retreat’s favorite retreat spots — an intimate and secluded seaside eco-resort highly acclaimed for it’s serenity, beautiful open-air accommodations, delicious vegetarian cuisine and stunning yoga studios. Accommodations are on the simple side—not EYR’s traditional 4-5 star classic luxury—but luxurious to the soul, and magical in the setting amidst nature and sea. All rooms offer a view to the sea and a chorus of waves for deep, rhythmic sleep! Meals are based on locally grown produce, fresh fish and seafood, served in the spacious terrace dining area with spectacular views that overlook the jungle and the ocean. All dietary preferences are warmly catered to, and the friendly staff make sure that all guests are well taken care of. Xinalani is truly a paradise for our Mexico Yoga Retreat!

Retreat Dates

December 24—30, 2016    (Arrive Dec 23 for special pre-retreat night!)

We strongly encourage all guests flying internationally to arrive a day early to assure that travel delays do not cause disruption to your retreat, we will offer a special pre-retreat night at Xinalani on December 21st, with full room and board, for $150.

If your flight arrives later than 4:30 pm, or you have a delayed flight arriving later than 4:30pm, it will not be possible to get you to Xinalani that day. Once you arrive in PVR, you must go through customs (which can be lengthy this time of year) and then be transferred to the boat. No boats can leave for Xinalaiini past 6:00 pm as the seas can get rough and it becomes dark. This is beyond our control and we can make no exceptions. If your flight arrives after 4:30 pm please plan on staying in Puerto Vallarta for the night and we will get you to Xinalani on the first boat in the morning.

General Information & FAQ’s
1. Travel Visa

You will need a CURRENT PASSPORT for your trip to Mexico. A Driver License is no longer a valid identification document for travel to Mexico. No vaccinations are required to enter the country. During the flight to Puerto Vallarta you will be given a document to fill out which you will then need to present to the immigration official upon your entry into Mexico. This document is your Travel Visa.

2. Weather in Mexico

The Central Pacific Coast of Mexico is surrounded by jungle and receives approximately 345 days of sunshine per year. Located on the same latitude as the Hawaiian Islands, the sub-tropical climate is quite similar to Hawaii’s. As the temperature changes according to the season, check this link for local weather for the dates of year of your retreat.

3. Immunizations

No, immunizations are not required for this part of Mexico.

4. Drinking Water

The water from the faucets is safe for showering and other necessities but is not safe to drink. There is clean, fresh, purified water provided in each cabana for drinking, brushing your teeth and cleaning your contacts and contact cases. There is bottled water available in the restaurant each day. The ice used in the restaurant is also made from clean, fresh, purified water.

5. Safety in this Region of Mexico

Though Americans have been advised in recent years to travel to Mexico with caution, the Puerto Vallarta area hasn’t been affected by crime. Violence is located in other regions of Mexico far away from Puerto Vallarta. Also, there are no roads to Xinalani! Xinalani is accessible only by water, making the resort peaceful, secluded, and a real pain in the butt for a criminal to get to. We want our guests to feel completely secure, that is why, although our area is completely safe and has record low crime rates that most American cities envy, we offer a fully escorted shuttle service from the airport to the resort

6. Money / Cash / Credit Cards

Yes, you will need money for excursions, spa treatments and tipping. Xinalani accepts either US Dollars or Mexican Pesos (MXN) in cash. You can exchange money at Xinalani but there are no ATMs on property or nearby. We also accept VISA, Mastercard and Discover but no American Express.

7. WiFi

There is Wi-Fi access in the reception and lounge areas; however, we strive to keep our common spaces free for relaxing and socializing. This is an opportunity to let your digital devices go to sleep, so you can wake up!

8. Cell Service

Depending on your carrier, you will most likely have cell service. If not, you can use Skype, as the wifi signal is strong.

9. Tips & Gratuities

The staff at Xinalani are amazing! They are so friendly and helpful! They come from a small pueblo within walking distance of Xinalani, and do rely on gratuities to supplement their income. At the end of the retreat, you are encouraged to consider giving approximately $15 per day for the staff – and are welcome to give additional tips to anyone who has made your stay particularly special!

10. Power Adaptor

Mexico uses standard American outlets.

10. Toiletries & Hair Dryer

Xinalani provides soap, shampoo and conditioner. Hair dryers are not allowed at Xinalani, as they take too much power.

10. Yoga Props
