CHRISTMAS YOGA RETREAT • MEXICO 2017
CELEBRATE IN THE SUN
YOGA, PEACE & JOY!
Choose a holiday full of health, relaxation, gratitude and meaning. Our Christmas Yoga Retreat is a perfect way to escape the madness — spend this holiday practicing yoga, meditating and rejuvenating along a serene private beach in Mexico — with sun, sea, surfing, horse-backriding, paddle-boards, kayaks and a group of like-minded, multi-cultural yogis!
Flow of the Day
MORNINGS Wake up with a view to the sea and a chorus of tropical birds! With silence until 8 am, stroll along the beach, dive in for a sunrise swim or join in a group silent meditation to the waves. Choose a gentle Hatha Yoga class focusing on breath and alignment with Talya Lutzker, or a dynamic music-driven Bhakti Yoga flow with Neil Wadhawan — or do them both! All yoga classes take place in the stunning open-air yoga shala, with spectacular sea views and a soft ocean breeze! Breakfast is a tasty Mexican-style tropical buffet. . . and the day has just begun!
AFTERNOONS Free time to enjoy the sunshine! Lounge on the beach, swim in the sea, surf, paddle-board, kayak, hike in the jungle, horse-back ride, enjoy a fabulous massage, experience a traditional sweat lodge… or just lie in a hammock basking in the sweet luxury of down-time! At noon a couple times during the retreat, Exotic Yoga Retreats founder, Gayle Olson, will offer inversion workshops for those interested in exploring nuances and safety practices in headstands and handstands. A delicious buffet lunch is served from 1:30-2:30, followed by plenty of time for a siesta to the sound of the waves!
EVENINGS At sunset we reconvene for an offering of sunset yoga practices—an hour of rejuvenating vinyasa, and/or a deeply quieting restorative practice focused on balancing the nervous system. Following our sunset sessions is an exquisite dinner on the sea-view terrace, a three-course gourmet meal featuring inspired and traditional Mexican recipes, designed for the healthy life-style of a yogi. After dinner take a moonlight stroll on the beach, gather with friends around a bonfire or even try your feet at salsa!
STAY AT A PRIVATE BEACH & ECO–RESORT
Accessible only by boat, you will be met at the airport in Puerto Vallarta and taken by boat to the one of Exotic Yoga Retreat’s favorite retreat spots — an intimate and secluded seaside eco-resort highly acclaimed for it’s serenity, beautiful open-air accommodations, delicious vegetarian cuisine and stunning yoga studios. Accommodations are on the simple side—not EYR’s traditional 4-5 star classic luxury—but luxurious to the soul, and magical in the setting amidst nature and sea. All rooms offer a view to the sea and a chorus of waves for deep, rhythmic sleep! Meals are based on locally grown produce, fresh fish and seafood, served in the spacious terrace dining area with spectacular views that overlook the jungle and the ocean. All dietary preferences are warmly catered to, and the friendly staff make sure that all guests are well taken care of. Xinalani is truly a paradise for our Mexico Yoga Retreat!
Discover or rediscover the joy of yoga with three highly experienced yoga teachers offering a variety of dynamic vinyasa, hatha yoga, alignment and restorative classes. Each day there will be morning meditation, four daily yoga classes to choose from, plus a few special inversion workshops. Every class is open to anyone, and every activity is optional. Whether fiery and energetic or soft and receptive, the yoga sessions emphasize safety, awareness, intelligence—and the joie di vivre of yoga!
Neil Wadhawan’s dynamic Bhakti Flow Vinyasa classes weave asana, prayer, breath and music into a hypnotic rhythm of movement meditation. As a professional musician and percussionist, Neil at times adds live drumming to stimulate breath and beat!
Talya Lutzker is a certified yoga teacher, Ayurvedic practitioner, author, nutritionist and chef. After many years of studying in the Iyengar yoga tradition, she became a yoga instructor in 2001, and now teaches Prajna Yoga, a style founded by Tias and Surya Little. Her classes focus on intelligent postural alignment, healing the nervous system, and pranayama breathing to balance the internal energy.
Gayle Olson, founder of Exotic Yoga Retreats, has taught and practiced Vinyasa, Iyengar and Hatha yoga around the world for over 20 years. Gayle has developed a unique method, Adjustment-Massage For Vinyasa Practice, giving students hands-on adjustments during class — it’s like receiving a full-body massage during a vinyasa practice! Gayle will lead morning meditations and offer two Inversion workshops for those interested in exploring the nuances and safety practices in headstands and handstands.

General Information & FAQ’s
1. Travel Visa
You will need a CURRENT PASSPORT for your trip to Mexico. A Driver License is no longer a valid identification document for travel to Mexico. No vaccinations are required to enter the country. During the flight to Puerto Vallarta you will be given a document to fill out which you will then need to present to the immigration official upon your entry into Mexico. This document is your Travel Visa.
2. Weather in Mexico
The Central Pacific Coast of Mexico is surrounded by jungle and receives approximately 345 days of sunshine per year. Located on the same latitude as the Hawaiian Islands, the sub-tropical climate is quite similar to Hawaii’s. As the temperature changes according to the season, check this link for local weather for the dates of year of your retreat.
No, immunizations are not required for this part of Mexico.
4. Drinking Water
The water from the faucets is safe for showering and other necessities but is not safe to drink. There is clean, fresh, purified water provided in each cabana for drinking, brushing your teeth and cleaning your contacts and contact cases. There is bottled water available in the restaurant each day. The ice used in the restaurant is also made from clean, fresh, purified water.
5. Safety in this Region of Mexico
Though Americans have been advised in recent years to travel to Mexico with caution, the Puerto Vallarta area hasn’t been affected by crime. Violence is located in other regions of Mexico far away from Puerto Vallarta. Also, there are no roads to Xinalani! Xinalani is accessible only by water, making the resort peaceful, secluded, and a real pain in the butt for a criminal to get to. We want our guests to feel completely secure, that is why, although our area is completely safe and has record low crime rates that most American cities envy, we offer a fully escorted shuttle service from the airport to the resort
6. Money / Cash / Credit Cards
Yes, you will need money for excursions, spa treatments and tipping. Xinalani accepts either US Dollars or Mexican Pesos (MXN) in cash. You can exchange money at Xinalani but there are no ATMs on property or nearby. We also accept VISA, Mastercard and Discover but no American Express.
There is Wi-Fi access in the reception and lounge areas; however, we strive to keep our common spaces free for relaxing and socializing. This is an opportunity to let your digital devices go to sleep, so you can wake up!
8. Cell Service
Depending on your carrier, you will most likely have cell service. If not, you can use Skype, as the wifi signal is strong.
9. Tips & Gratuities
The staff at Xinalani are amazing! They are so friendly and helpful! They come from a small pueblo within walking distance of Xinalani, and do rely on gratuities to supplement their income. At the end of the retreat, you are encouraged to consider giving approximately $15 per day for the staff – and are welcome to give additional tips to anyone who has made your stay particularly special!
10. Power Adaptor
Mexico uses standard American outlets.
10. Toiletries & Hair Dryer
Xinalani provides soap, shampoo and conditioner. Hair dryers are not allowed at Xinalani, as they take too much power.
10. Yoga Props
Xinalani provides all yoga mats, blocks, belts and blankets!
