“Like all destinies, like all great adventures, I have gone to places I never imagined before I set out.” – BKS Iyengar

Seeing the world differently is about journey… about moving from one place to another. For yogis, this is a familiar idea: we practice moving from one pose to another and find ourselves in a different place from where we started, physically, mentally, and emotionally. We feel more balanced, more energized—even more at home. Our yoga journey takes us inward and closer to who we really are.

The master yogi B.K.S. Iyengar talks about how this journey inward takes place: “we can go into the subtlest heart of living matter”, by observing nature, and exploring the nature inside ourselves. When our journeys into the world are combined with yoga, we find that spirituality—along with courage and love and compassion—is not external to us, but part of the divine core within us. We begin seeing ourselves differently.

For me, traveling to exotic locations combines the best of outer discovery and inner journey. When our everyday world is transformed, amazing things happen … the warm touch of sun, sand, and sea revives us; the food we eat tastes better; our relationships with one another blossom and deepen … we rediscover the joy of being fully alive and present. Being in this place, feeling nourished and cleansed and awake to new possibilities helps me let go so I can move to a new place in relation to self and others. Sometimes, seeing the world differently is as simple as that.

No matter your level of yoga experience, I invite you to join me in a yoga adventure! Starting Exotic Yoga Retreats has been the beginning of a new journey for me, and it’s one I look forward to sharing with all of you.
