FLOW OF THE DAY
MORNINGS begin with birds and fresh air on the terrace as you enjoy a cappuccino and quiet moments overlooking the Italian countryside. Convening in the beautiful frescoed chapel, we share a deep yoga practice and meditation with Gayle Olson, followed by an Italian farm-to-table breakfast on the veranda.
AFTERNOONS can be spent lounging by the infinity salt water pool, relaxing with a massage, reading, swimming, hiking, an Italian cooking class, wine-tasting or enjoying excursions to the famous medieval town of Assisi. At sunset we re-convene for a relaxing and rejuvenating restorative yoga, pranayama and meditation session.
EVENINGS are pure magic, as we share our meal family style under the stars—appreciating the simple life of sumptuous tastes, good food and great company! There will be evening activities involving music, meditation and connection… but remember, everything on this retreat is optional! You may prefer to drink wine late into the night, or climb into bed early with a book—our Mediterranean-style retreats provide the the perfect setting for you to relax, rejuvenate and be inspired—in the way that fits for you!
STAY AT AN ANCIENT CASTLE!
The ancient castle of Carpiano dates back to the beginning of the X century, when it belonged to Rovaldo Baldassini, father of Sant’Ubaldo, patron saint of the town of Gubbio. In 2001, Riccardo & Marilisa Parisi discovered the old property and immediately fell in love with that “pile of rocks” dreaming to bring it back to life! The restoration took many years of devotion and was carried out using original materials and preserving the character of the place, with furniture, paintings, china and silver from the owners family collection.
Borgo di Carpiano is located near the picturesque medieval town of Gubbio, the chapel of St Francis of Assisi, and the famous city of Perugia in Umbria. The property consists of different cut stone buildings leading down to the infinity salt water pool and organic garden overlooking a pristine valley of olive trees and lush woods. The former church has been restored and converted into a unique library and drawing room, respecting the historic architecture and preserving the original frescoes. We get to practice yoga in an ancient chapel!
The rooms are luxurious, set in a mood characteristic of Italian countryside, with all the amenities that make your stay perfectly comfortable! There is a salt water infinity pool to lounge by, spa and massages available, organic garden and endless countryside to hike and explore!
MEDITATE IN ASSISI • COOK ITALIAN • TASTE WINE!
We have arranged a good balance of down-time to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the countryside—and will also treat you to a handful of excursions and activities that will give you a sense of the deliciousness, character and culture of the region! We will make a morning visit to the famous church of St Francis of Assisi to meditate and practice yoga near the chapel, then have free time to hike, explore the monastery, shop and enjoy lunch (on your own) in the beautiful medieval town of Assisi. Another day we’ll have a private cooking class learning some healthy mediterranean dish from the region. We’ll also have the opportunity to experience one of a most picturesque and non-touristic medieval villages in Umbria, with wine tasting at a select family vineyard!

Whether fiery and energetic or soft and receptive, the practice will include Gayle’s trademark hands-on massage adjustments and individual attention to each student. In her charismatic and playful style she encourages you to maintain a strong, meditative focus on your breath — and on the joy of yoga. Gayle has been teaching yoga for more than twenty years and is author of the Women’s Guide to Yoga & Fitness.

TRAVEL ROUTES & TIPS
For all international flights. . . we strongly encourage you to arrive a day early (at least to a connecting European city). This extra day helps with jet lag and assures that travel delays do not cause disruption to your retreat.
Arrive to Rome International Airport (FCO), or to the town of Perugia.
GENERAL INFO & FAQ’S
Please check that your passport is valid for at least 90 days from arriving date. Depending on your nationality, you may or may not need a Visa to travel to Italy. You can check via this link: Italy Visa Information
3. MONEY / CASH / CREDIT CARDS
Italy’s currency is the Euro. We recommend you bring a bank card and an international credit card (that does not charge you for each charge you make). Best to obtain cash at the airport after collecting baggage. You will need euros for spa services, bar bill and lunch on one excursion.
There is Wi-Fi access at the Villa. Please keep digital devices in your room. We strive to keep our common spaces free for relaxing and socializing. This is an opportunity to let your digital devices go to sleep, so you can wake up!
5. CELL SERVICE
Depending on your carrier, you will most likely have cell service. If not, you can use Skype, as the wifi signal is strong.
6. TIPS & GRATUITIES
Tipping is not obligatory in Italy, however, always appreciated! 10% is a nice offer at restaurants or for other services. If you would like to leave a gratuity for the staff and chef at the villa, you will need to do so in cash.
7. POWER ADAPTOR
Electrical outlets are standard European, type C and type F. Voltage is 230V. All rooms have hair dryers.
8. YOGA PROPS
Since this is a private villa and not a yoga studio, you will need to bring your own yoga mat and any props you prefer. We strongly encourage you to bring a foam block!
