Peru & Machu Picchu — Journey of a lifetime!

PERU SUMMER YOGA RETREAT — ITINERARY

July 23 — Welcome dinner in Cusco

Meet your fellow yogis and sojourners for an opening dinner we organize at our favorite restaurant in the heart of Cusco!  Following dinner, you will stay at your own hotel, and next morning (29th) we’ll pick you up and bring you to our retreat center. We strongly recommend you arrive in Cusco July 22nd to rest and acclimate to the altitude. Cusco is wonderful and safe city to explore and wander on your own!

Day 1 — Depart for Sacred Valley & the Moray Circles

After breakfast, a van will pick you up and take you to our retreat center in the Sacred Valley (1.5 hours). En route, stop and explore the mysterious terraced circles at the Moray archeological site, surrounded by stunning agricultural plains and majestic mountains. Arrive at our retreat center in time for a welcome lunch and an introduction to our lovely Quechua staff. The afternoon is yours to wander the grounds, relax in your lush, garden-side room or enjoy a spa treatment or outdoor bath!  We’ll convene in the yoga studio at 4:30 for our opening yoga class, followed by a delicious farm-to-table organic dinner prepared by ingredients grown on site.

Day 2 — Pachamama Day ~ Revitalize Body & Spirit!

This day is dedicated to Pachamama, who represents Mother Earth. After morning yoga and breakfast, we’ll have a guided tour of the phenomenal Chakra Gardens… you have never seen flowers like this! Unwind, enjoy the spa, take a hike and connect with nature. Today is a day to nourish your body with healthy meals and deep yoga, and your spirit with tea-leaf readings and a transformative fire ceremony led by a shaman healer from the high Andes. The ceremony serves as a wonderful preparation of mind, body and spirit for your pilgrimage to Machu Picchu.

Day 3 — Mountain Culture & Hiking

Begin this heart-opening day with a drive through the Sacred Valley to an isolated Quechua mountain school which few tourists are privileged to visit. Cherish the children’s warmth, joy and openness and leave humbled and deeply moved.  Next, visit the spectacular ruins in Písac with a hike to the ancient Incan Temple of the Sun, a perfect place for silent meditation overlooking the sacred valley. Hiking down the mountain, you will arrive at the famous Písac market where you can choose a café for lunch in the market square and after, shop for woven goods, jewelry, wall hangings and hand-painted beadwork.

Day 4 — Explore the local village and hike to the Maras Salt Farms

Enjoy deep peace and tranquility, with meditation, yoga and time to just “be” in the gardens. As a sojourner, you were called to the Sacred Valley. Today is a gift dedicated to you. In silence, enjoy the pure energy of the Chakra Gardens. Feel Pachamama’s embrace and allow her to whisper her wisdom to your soul. At lunch we will break silence. More active guests may take a 2-hour hike climbing the zigzag paths of the ancient Maras Salt Farms… or indulge in an Andean spa treatment to pamper body and soul.

Day 5 — Journey to Machu Picchu!

After an early breakfast we’ll catch the morning train (a stunning 1.5 hours ride) to Aguas Calientes, the gateway town to ancient Machu Picchu. After setting down our overnight bag down at our hotel, we’ll enjoy a fabulous guided tour of Machu Picchu.  We’ll journey through temples of spiritual power, breath-taking mountains and connect with one of the most spectacular energy places on Earth!  The evening will be a celebratory three-course dinner in a fun and lively restaurant in Aguas Calientes, followed by a well-earned deep sleep!

Day 6 — Machu Picchu hike

Free day in Machu Picchu to experience the place exactly as you feel! There are a variety of hikes in Machu Picchu, from moderate to strenuous. You may wish to find a hidden terrace and meditate or practice yoga… this is your moment to discover the strong spirit of Machu Picchu!   We will meet back in late afternoon to take a train back to our resort in time for dinner.

Day 7 — Free day!

Free day for yoga, meditation, a walk into the nearby town of Urubumba to buy local arts, crafts and pottery, or just relax at in the gardens. In the evening we’ll have our closing yoga circle.

Day 8 — Departure Day

Farewell sun salutes, breakfast, and depart by bus back to the Cusco airport.
