December/January is Peru’s summer. It tends to be warmer and wetter than the winter “dry season”. However, rainfall generally occurs at night and the days are generally sunny and in the high 70’s with lows at night in the 50’s. It is a wonderful time to be in Peru as the abundant plant life is in bloom, the tourist season is quieter and the rains can bring beautiful misty mornings at Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. See weather here.
Yes, you will want money for a few lunches on your own and any additional services or gifts you may choose to purchase while in Peru. Bring US currency in $20-$100 denominations, as crisp and new as possible. $1 bills are not accepted.
